Sustainable Charging with Your Own Solar Power—the MUMAX Charging Park in Wesel
A private charging station powered by self-generated solar electricity. Peter and Dirk Mumme came up with this idea and successfully implemented it at their charging station in Wesel. Since 2024, the modern charging station has offered space for eight fast-charging points with up to 300 kW of power, as well as six additional points, each with 22 kW. The site also provides ample space and suitable infrastructure for trucks. The electricity for the charging park comes from the facility’s own photovoltaic system. Excess energy is temporarily stored in a battery storage system with a capacity of 1,200 kWh. An energy management system (EMS) analyzes the available amount of electricity and determines an appropriate selling price. This price is then automatically transmitted to the chargers.
Automated Pricing with EAAZE
This is where EAAZE comes into play: The EMS automatically transmits the prices to the EAAZE platform. Via a seamlessly integrated API interface, EAAZE ensures that the pricing information is relayed to the charging station in real time. Specifically, this means that prices for ad-hoc charging—as well as for direct customers and holders of the MUMAX charging chip—are dynamically adjusted without any manual effort. This provides maximum flexibility for the operator, as the pricing strategy can always be optimally adapted to electricity availability and market conditions. For end customers, this automation offers transparency and fairness. In line with the power source, this dynamic pricing is part of the so-called “Sunshine” rate. To ensure that passing customers are always informed of the current price, it is displayed on a large billboard right by the road.
More Than Just Charging
True to the motto “Charge and Enjoy,” the location offers more than just charging infrastructure: snacks and beverages are available around the clock at fair prices right next to the charging stations. This collaboration demonstrates how sustainable charging infrastructure can be implemented: customers with a vision and the EAAZE platform with its technical capabilities.
